Riverboat Captain James Gilmer was honored during New Sardis Baptist Church’s Living Legend¬†event February 28, 2016. Captain Gilmer is the first African American riverboat captain on the Mississippi River. Be on the lookout for a RiverFolk post about Captain James Gilmer in the near future.
