Riverboat Captain James Gilmer was honored during New Sardis Baptist Church’s Living Legend event February 28, 2016. Captain Gilmer is the first African American riverboat captain on the Mississippi River. Be on the lookout for a RiverFolk post about Captain James Gilmer in the near future.
